One of the must-sees for us in Copenhagen is the Vor Frue Kirken (Church of our Lady) that houses the original Christus. Most people who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are familiar with the Christus in the Visitor's Center in Temple Square, but few know that it is a replica of the original Christus statue which was sculpted by Bertel Thorvaldsen a Danish-Icelandic Sculptor between 1819-1838. He actually sculpted Christ and the Twelve Apostles (Judas Iscariot replaced by St Paul) which are all fascinating and equally impressive. I didn't include the pictures of the Twelve Apostles here, but that was a big part of the reason we wanted to go to the cathedral. One of David's Danish cousins spent part of her mission on Temple Square and mentioned the origin of the Christus statue to a family on a tour and the daughter turned to her mother and asked if it was true that the one in Salt Lake was just a copy. The mother said, "No, she was just teasing." LOL
I think the statue in Copenhagen is probably the same size as the one in Salt Lake, but it looks so much smaller here being the center piece of a very large cathedral instead of the center piece of a relatively small room.
We then walked through town and headed toward the famous little mermaid statue. On the way, the babies napped and we stopped at a Pulsar (hot dog) stand for lunch and sat near a beautiful fountain to eat.
Here's the famous little mermaid statue. It's not as big as you would think from pictures on the Internet. It's the size of a small woman. Would you believe there is a replica of this in Salt Lake City, too? A half size replica in the International Peace Gardens.
We headed back through the pedestrian area of town. The babies were excited to see horses after having to look at buildings and statues all day.
Austin and Kadence got some time to run around out of their stroller and walk up and down a little ramp and find rocks and throw them.
