Trunk or Treat

At out annual Ward Trunk-or-Treat, David ran the bowling booth, our little minions slept in the stroller, and Crusader Bryson collected and traded candy with all his friends.

Hannah and Ben's Minions

Since Hannah and Ben found out we were having twins, they have been insisting that the babies are going to be their minions. If you've seen the movie Despicable Me that came out this year, you know the minions stole the show with their big hearts and crazy antics.

So we gave Hannah and Ben their minions for a day.

Full Contact Tetherball

So the other night Bryson and McKay were outside playing tetherball in the backyard while David was grilling dinner. They wanted David to referee, but he knew better than to get involved. The boys really just wanted to argue with each other constantly over illegal hits and exactly what the rules were. They were still arguing over dinner and trying to get David and I to side with one of them on some of the hits to decide who won, for example "Can you kick the ball?" Bryson finally yells out, "Unsportsman-like conduct!" and stands up holding out his shirt which clearly has McKay's footprint on it. McKay in turn yells, "Unsportsman-like conduct on you!" and holds out his shirt to show Bryson's hand print smeared across his shirt. I think they tied.

Let's Roll!

Last week Austin started rolling from his stomach to his back. He takes his "tummy time" very seriously. As soon as he is put down he starts grunting and straining to roll over. (I guess it helps motivate him when Bryson his pounding on the floor next to him yelling in a deep voice, "Come on soldier, roll! You can do it, push!") We can't leave Austin on the floor very long because, whether he is on his stomach or back, he fells like it's work time and he has to try to get turned over. He'll wear himself out straining to try to roll over from his back to his stomach. Kadence on the other hand thinks tummy time is nap time. It's going to take her longer to roll over because she hasn't really even tried, yet.

Not bad for a baby that's not even supposed to be born, yet.

Keep on running!

McKay took up running a year ago last summer and rarely misses a day without going for a run. This fall he decided to join the Cross Country team at school. Their workouts really pushed him and his running improved steadily the entire season. He hasn't plateaued, yet, and unfortunately it's the end of the season. He plans to keep up the rigorous workout and see how he does at the Turkey Trot this year.

Great Footwork

Fall soccer is drawing to a close. Bryson did a great job and was known on his team for his great footwork. This year the kids played so much better than previous years. It was really looking like competitive soccer. His coach did a great job of teaching the kids to play the positions and giving them opportunities to try all the different positions.

Bryson did great as goalie and usually played there each game for a quarter.

He also plays awesome defence and didn't let anything get past him.

He also played a good offense and made several goals throughout the season and assisted on many others.

His team went to the finals where they went into overtime twice, then had to settle it with a round of goal kicks and a final round of sudden death goal kicks. Unfortunately, Bryson's team didn't win the sudden death round and lost the championship, but didn't go down without a fight. It was an incredibly exciting way to end the season.

Top 10 Things We Love About Parenting Infant Twins

Kadence and Austin are 1 month old today! The time goes by so fast. Since they've been home they've continued to do a lot of growing. Austin now tips the scales at 6 lb 7 oz and Kadence at 5 lb 8 oz. In honor of being 1 month old we've compiled a list of the top 10 things we love about parenting our infant twins.

10. Preemie diapers are so tiny and cute! By the way, this is how many they use in a week for both.

(No, the babies won't fit in a diaper wipes box if you scrunch them up - close, but not quite)

9. You get to see two very different personalities right from the start. Kadence is noisy, demanding, and impatient. Austin is mild-mannered, patient, and we've only heard an all-out cry a couple of times. With Kadence it's a couple of times a day.

8. You get to see that 2:30 am looks very different through the eyes of a baby who thinks it's play time. That is if you can pry your eyelids up.

7. More space between you and your hubby :( when the furnace goes out and the house starts getting cold, so you move the babies to your bed to keep them warm. (It took 6, yes 6, service calls and now hopefully the furnace is fixed)

6. You get to fret about every fraction of an ounce you can get into them, because you know they need it to keep packing on the weight. So how many Engineers does it take to feed two babies? Apparently 3, one for each baby and one to take the pictures. (This is when the babies met Hannah for the first time - she's almost an Engineer)

5. No need to worry about sweeping all that extra floor because now it's all covered with various baby furniture and paraphernalia.

4. You just can't help saying "Ahhhhh" every time they yawn, stretch, or sneeze. Or every time you pull out an adorable tiny outfit, "Ahhhh".

3. You praise the babies for burps that will have them sent from the table in a couple of years.

2. More minds to form - just the way we want them. You can't start too early.

Big Stretch for Austin

Austin and Kadence have been progressing well and
gaining a lot of weight in the past week. Today Austin hit 5 1/2 pounds and Kadence hit 4 1/2 pounds. This was a picture of their room at the NICU at the beginning of the day.

That was before they moved Kadence to a bassinet which means she is getting closer to going home.

Yes, there is a baby under all that pink fluff. The hospital has begun preparing for discharge and are getting things lined up. The babies had a hearing test today which they passed with no problem (we're not at all surprised, they're very responsive to sounds). We also had to bring in a car seat so they could do a car seat challenge test with each of the babies. They let the babies sleep in the car seat for a couple of hours to make sure they can breathe well while slouched in a car seat so they can survive the ride home when they're discharged. The earliest they could come home is Tuesday if there are no other complications. Wish us luck!
